Our work and the Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs, are 17 universal goals set by the UN member states to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure peace and prosperity for all. The aim is to achieve all the targets set out by the SDGs by 2030. 

The SDGs are focused on areas such as economic equality, health, education, peace and climate change among other priorities.

Here are some examples of how our work with our partners is addressing the SDGs:

Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages

What does Children Change Colombia do? 

  • We provide access to sexual and reproductive health care services and education as well as advocating for better standards in existing services across Colombia, with Fundación Si Mujer. 
  • We work in areas with high levels of suicide to promote mental health and well-being through therapeutic work with victims of trauma, with Corporación Casa Amazonía. 
  • We work with children and families who misuse drugs and alcohol, with Albergue Infantil Mamá Yolanda and Tiempo de Juego. 

Goal 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

What does Children Change Colombia do?

  • We support young people to get back into education or access vocational training, with Fundación CRAN.
  • We provide access to vocational training for young people and adults, with ACJ.
  • We support indigenous children and young people to access education, and raise awareness in communities of the importance for girls to have equal access to education, with Corporación Casa Amazonía.
  • All our partners help children to understand their rights, including the right to education, and give them the confidence to demand these rights. Children are learning how to promote a culture of peace and non-violence, acceptance and understanding of diversity. 

Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

What does Children Change Colombia do?

  • We raise awareness of and work on the prevention of sexual exploitation of children and women, with ACJ. ACJ also promotes women’s participation in community leadership.
  • We promote equal rights of women and girls and girl's access to education, with Corporación Casa Amazonía.
  • We provide training and support to children and young people to help them protect their sexual and reproductive health and rights, with Si Mujer. Si Mujer also promotes female participation in leadership roles within schools, communities and in public spaces and institutions.
  • We work to protect young women from violence and exploitation in gangs and other aspects of their lives, with Tiempo de Juego and Albergue Infantil Mamá Yolanda. They also promote girls and young women as leaders within their communities.  
  • We protect girls against conflict-related sexual violence, with Circulo de Estudios.
  • All our partners promote values of non-discrimination and non-violence among children and young people and their families and communities.

Goal 8: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all

What does Children Change Colombia do?

  • We support the reintegration of former child soldiers into society and prevent their re-entry into armed groups, with Fundación CRAN. 
  • We prevent the recruitment of children into armed groups, with Fundescodes, Tiempo de Juego, Corporación Casa Amazonía and Circulo de Estudios.
  • We prevent and protect children against commercial sexual exploitation, with ACJ.

Goal 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries

What does Children Change Colombia do?

  • All our partners promote social inclusion of the most at risk children and young people regardless of age, sex, race, sexuality, ethnicity or economic status

Goal 16: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development

What does Children Change Colombia do?

  • We reduce the levels of violence in marginalised communities through peace-building activities, with Fundescodes. They also work with community-based institutions to make them more effective at protecting children.
  • We work to reduce violence against children and young people, giving them the skills they need to protect themselves from violence and demand more effective institutions, with Corporación Casa Amazonía. They also open spaces for children and young people's participation in decision making within their communities. 
  • We raise awareness of and prevent sexual exploitation of children and women, and promote women's participation in community leadership, with ACJ.
