Call for Change: Reflections on Peace and Conflict in Colombia

Children Change Colombia in collaboration with the School of Public Policy  of University College London are delighted to invite you to the event Call for Change: Reflections on Peace and Conflict in Colombia.

The panel aims to provide an insightful conversation on the challenges and opportunities for peace in Colombia, featuring experts in the field. Academics and field workers will present the findings from their research and projects related to conflict and peace in Colombia.

The session will be opened by Dr. Eleanor F. Woodhouse Director of the MSc in Public Policy of the Department of Political Science and School of Public Policy at UCL, and will include the presentation of the project Paz A la Mochila – an innovative peace-building project that fosters resilience and understanding among Colombia’s youth.

List of Panelists

Estefania Dominguez

Is a PhD Candidate at Leeds University researching on global justice and the wars on drugs in Latin America. She worked for 2 years at the UN Verification Mission in Colombia (UNVMC) and UN Mission in Colombia (UNMC) supporting the disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration of FARC-EP. Her presentation will focus on the relation between drug trafficking and conflict in Colombia.

Dr Andrei Gomez-Suarez

Is part of the Colombian government’s delegation in a peace process in Nariño with guerrilla group Comuneros del Sur, living in Edinburgh but spending part of each year in Colombia. Andrei will discuss the innovative approaches he and his colleagues are taking to build lasting peace, while also sharing the challenges inherent in fostering inclusive dialogue and navigating complex regional dynamics.

Dr Luis L. Schenoni

Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at UCL, and the Director of UCL’s Security Studies Programme.His research explores the determinants of international conflict and its effects on state and nation building, with a particular focus on Latin America. His book, Bringing War Back In: Victory, Defeat, and the State in Nineteenth Century Latin America (Cambridge University Press 2024), provides a fresh theory connecting war and state formation.

Patricia Montenegro

Psychologist with a Master´s degree in social intervention. She has 20 years of experience designing and implementing, and leading educational, cultural, and social initiatives for children, families, communities, and victims of violence in Colombia. In the last year she designed and is now implementing the PazA la Mochila project of Children Change Colombia. Patricia will present the findings of the first year of the project.
