Education, Livelihoods, and Young Entrepreneurship
By improving access to education, equipping young people with skills for life, and supporting teachers and families, this project offers a powerful tool to break the cycle of poverty.
We are working across the Caribbean departments of Magdalena, Bolívar, La Guajira, and Atlántico.
Addressing exclusion from education for children in Colombia

In Colombia, thousands of children and young people, especially in rural and marginalised communities, face serious barriers to accessing quality education. Many must work to support their families, leading to high dropout rates and limited job prospects. The effects of poverty, poor infrastructure, and the lingering impact of armed conflict have left regions like La Guajira with some of the lowest education completion rates in the country — with just 5 out of every 100 students reaching university.
To tackle this urgent issue, Children Change Colombia is supporting the Education, Livelihoods, and Young Entrepreneurship project (2023–2025) across the Caribbean departments of Magdalena, Bolívar, La Guajira, and Atlántico.
With a focus on improving education, building skills, and supporting sustainable livelihoods, this three-year project is working to benefit:
- 510 children
- 35 teachers
- 150 parents

What We Do
Enhancing Education
We provide extracurricular learning in core subjects, STEM, and foreign languages (especially English), using creative and interactive methods to help children stay engaged and motivated.
Vocational Training
We offer hands-on vocational training in entrepreneurship, ecotourism, and environmental sustainability to 450 young people, preparing them for work in Colombia’s growing tourism and green economy sectors.
Teacher Development
We train 225 teachers in innovative, student-centred teaching methods, including gamification and digital tools, helping to improve the quality of education in classrooms.
Psychosocial Support
We provide mental health support to 904 children, parents, and teachers, helping them build resilience, improve well-being, and reduce dropout rates.
By improving access to education, equipping young people with skills for life, and supporting teachers and families, this project offers a powerful tool to break the cycle of poverty. Young people in Colombia’s Caribbean region are gaining the confidence, knowledge, and opportunities they need to build a brighter future — for themselves and their communities.
