Football for Peace
Transforming communities through football initiatives
Children Change Colombia has been working since 2019 with the Afro-Colombian Community Council ACADESAN in Chocó and Valle del Cauca to improve the quality of the education of their schools, enhance their ethno-education programs, prevent school dropout rates and implement environmental projects.
The Pacific region of Colombia has historically been inhabited by Afro-descendant and Indigenous communities, and has been particularly affected by the armed conflict and child recruitment. Many children and young people have nowhere to go to be safe from the violence surrounding them and struggle to make plans outside of the conflict.
How can your donation help?
This year we have a new programme ´Football for Peace´ that hopes to support children through football, helping them connect with their peers and communities, giving them a sense of belonging, and teaching them to develop skills in critical thinking, empathy and managing emotions.
The project will provide training to local sports coaches to teach children about peace-building, gender equality and to develop their social-emotional skills, with the aim of protecting them against forced recruitment. It will also raise funds to provide football kits and the restoration of football pitches.
