María is 17 years old and lives in the rural region of La Sierra Nevada, on the Caribbean coast of Colombia, where she attended our ‘Education, Livelihoods and Entrepreneurship’ project.
In December 2023, she graduated from high school, where her favourite subjects were Spanish and chemistry. During the project, her dedication and passion for education shone through, and she is now studying a technical course in pharmacy,
One day, María dreams of setting up her own business. Earlier this year, we were delighted to offer her a full scholarship to study international business at university, so that she can be one step closer to reaching her goals. María is the first of her family to attend university, and thanks to this scholarship, she is receiving the support that she needs along every step of the way and to help secure the bright future that she deserves.
Inspiring future scholars
María is one of our five students who have been selected to receive full scholarships to fund their university degrees through our new programme in partnership with Politécnico Grancolombiano and Fundación Universitaria del Área Andina.
Update on Maria - 2025
María had good grades in her first semester of Finances and International Business. She liked all the classes and had good grades. She received support from Gizeth, another of the scholars who started studying in the same university six months before her to use the academic platform, and she feels more comfortable now studying online.
Last semester her favorite class was Tarif System and Merchandise, she got 4.9/5. This semester, she is really enjoying Microeconomy and is having very good grades too. She is starting a volunteering with the CCC project “Girl lead research” in rural schools in la Sierra to encourage younger girls to become leaders and find their voice to claim their rights.
